Why choose the Twickenham Osteopathy Clinic?
Do you feel that you have tried every therapy going and nothing works? Or perhaps previous treatment may resolve your problem for a short time but your neck, back or other pain inevitably comes back? If so, then it may be time for a pain specialist…
We take a different approach to pain
Conventional treatments tend to be limited to ‘the bit that hurts’ only and not the real source of the pain. At the Twickenham Osteopathy Clinic our treatment aims to get to the bottom of why your pain persists and tackle the root cause. Pain, whether it’s neck or back pain, headaches or limb pain is a whole person experience and should be treated as such.
Modern pain science demonstrates that the area where you feel the pain is only a small part of the issue. An initial injury usually heals after a maximum of 8 weeks and after that, although you have very real pain, there is unlikely to be any ongoing structural damage. In fact it’s likely to be nerve sensitivity that you’re suffering from, caused by a range of factors.
What we do
A key part of the initial session is taking a careful case history – it is important we take time to understand, not only your back, neck, knee or other pain, but you as a person and your lifestyle, so we can work together to understand why the pain has occurred and what we can do to resolve it.
Gentle hands-on pain relief
Our specialist approach includes gentle hands-on treatment, exercises, relaxation and even brain re-training techniques are used to reduce nerve sensitivity and muscle spasm. Contrary to popular belief, manual therapy does not realign the body or ‘put structures back’. The body is strong and well able to keep itself together without help!
Ongoing support to help you help yourself
All back, neck and other pain is generated by the brain and nervous system. The good news is that the brain is neuroplastic, which means that it has the capacity to change, and unlearn the painful nerve pathways it has developed. Our treatment is aimed at devising strategies to develop new pain free pathways. It may sound complicated but it really isn’t.
